How to use Val-E-Gro™

Val-E-Gro™ is a rich growing medium. Val-E-Gro™ is a 100% recycled blend of de-watered, “Class A” biosolids, composted bark mulch and sand. The excellent organic soil conditioning properties aid water retention in lighter soils and help to break up and aerate heavier soils, so less watering is needed. It contains both readily available and long term nitrogen and other nutrients commonly lacking in local soils. Each batch of Val-E-Gro™ is tested for nutrients and metal content to meet the standards required by the Provincial Organic Matter Recycling Regulations. Use Val-E-Gro™ to become a full-cycle recycler!

Flower Beds
An inch and a half will be enough to enrich your flower bed for a whole year. You can mix into a planting hole, or top dress with Val-E-Gro™ after plants are established. Water after applying.

Bulbs
Val-E-Gro™ performs well with bulbs. Surround bulb with Val-E-Gro™ or use a mixture of one part Val-E-Gro™ and one part soil. Plant at recommended depth in planting hole.

Roses
Prepare ground as you would flower beds. Plant rose bush directly in Val-E-Gro™ or in a mixture of one part Val-E-Gro™ and one part soil.

Potted Plants
Val-E-Gro™ is an excellent addition to potting soil or peat. We recommend a 50–50 mix with a regular potting soil or peat. Seeds can be planted directly into Val-E-Gro™ or mixtures.

Trees & Shrubs
Dig a hole approximately two times the size of the ball or bare root. Plant in Val-E-Gro™ or a mixture of one part Val-E-Gro™ and one part soil.

Evergreens
Dig a hole allowing twelve inches around the ball or root system. Plant in Val-E-Gro™ or a mixture of one part Val-E-Gro™ and one part soil. Compact firmly and water.

Vegetable Garden
Val-E-Gro™ is beneficial in the vegetable garden. Use a full inch over your garden space before plowing or turning over. Apply Val-E-Gro™ to the planting hole when setting out transplants. Also use for mid season boosts to established crops.

Berries
Use a full inch of Val-E-Gro™ over your garden space before plowing or turning over. Plant as recommended.

New Lawns
For normal soil – Cover existing ground with approximately one inch of Val-E-Gro™. Mix or till into the top three to four inches of soil. Rake smooth and broadcast seeds as recommended. Use a roller to compact and then keep moist. For heavy soil – If tillage is difficult or impossible, Val-E-Gro™ used alone as a top dressing has proven useful in establishing a rich, full lawn. Rake up any rocks on the surface and spread Val-E-Gro™ using one cubic yard for every 324 sq. ft. Seed as directed on seed bag.

Established Lawns
Spread ¼-inch of Val-E-Gro™ on the lawn and rake as evenly as possible. Water thoroughly after application. Apply at this dosage twice per year, usually once in the spring and once in the fall. For optimum results, aerate before applying.
